Civil services examination, also known as IAS, is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission UPSC every year. To qualify for the exam, a candidate has to clear three stages. The questions are either objective type or multiple choice; there is negative marking for the prelims stage; for every incorrect answer, one-third of the allotted marks will be deducted. The first paper at prelims is of merit ranking nature, and the second paper is of qualifying nature. Blind candidates are allotted 20 more minutes, and for every candidate, it is mandatory to attend both papers for evaluation.

The second stage, which is UPSC mains, comprises nine papers with a total of 1750 marks –

NOTE – paper A and B are of qualifying nature, and the remaining seven papers are of a merit ranking nature.

After qualifying both prelims and mains, the last round is an interview or personality test for 275 marks; the questions are purely based on hobbies, current affairs, general knowledge, situation questions, and many more. This round is conducted to evaluate an individual’s ability to handle the upcoming pressure of making decisions for the country’s betterment. The interview round is held only in UPSC Bhavan in New Delhi
